Join Dr. Virginia Cox (PhD), Violin and Viola teacher at Morgantown Piano Academy, for a week long violin intensive interactive exploratory experience.
Open for ages – times:
4-5 years – 10:00-10:45am
6-7 years – 11:00-11:45am
8-9 years – 12:00-12:45am
Meet Mauri, “Cinnamon Toast”, “Bagel”, “Chocolate Chip” and other of Tina Teenee’s (a 1/10 size violin) real violin friends from the magic forest, and play and experience violin playing on a magic forest violin. Violins were once trees!
Children will learn simple rhythms, do-re-mi singing, how to hold a violin, and how to play pizzicato (plucking the string) and the bow hold.
At the end of the five day course, we will present a brief recital and perform our class’s “Pizzicato Concerto ‘Open String'” with Dr. Cox playing violin as well.
ALL INSTRUMENTS ARE OWNED BY, AND FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF DR. VIRGINIA COX. THEY CANNOT BE TAKEN HOME AND WILL BE USED IN CLASSES ONLY.
Violins of child-appropriate sizes of 1/10, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 or 4/4 instruments from the collection of Dr. Cox will be provided during the course. The instruments cannot be taken home. These are real instruments, and not toys, so they are to be respected as musical instruments and handled gently by everyone.
PARENTS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DAILY ACTIVITIES ALONGSIDE THE CHILDREN.
