FAQ

How Do Lessons Work ?
Lessons at Morgantown Piano Academy follow a structured, semester-based system with weekly private or small-group instruction. Students may begin with a single 30-minute trial lesson or a 30-day trial package before enrolling in a full semester. During the academic year, students attend weekly lessons in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions, while summer lessons offer more flexible scheduling. Instruction is personalized to each student’s age, level, and musical goals. For students with unique learning needs, schedule limitations, or specific goals, personalized lesson structures may be arranged to ensure the best possible learning experience.
How Do Scheduling, Rescheduling, and Make-Up Lessons Work ?
To keep lessons fair and consistent for all families, scheduling, rescheduling, and make-up lessons follow our Studio Policy. Once a student enrolls for a full semester, families receive our Studio Policy Handbook, which explains how cancellations and make-ups are handled. These policies help us respect our teachers’ time and schedules while keeping a smooth, reliable schedule for all students.
What Instruments Do Students Need to Bring ?
The academy provides grand pianos and drums for students to use during their lessons. For all other instruments, students are asked to bring their own instrument to class. Each lesson takes place in a dedicated private room, giving students a focused, comfortable environment for learning.
What Are the Expectations for the Toddler Music Class ?
For children ages 2–5, it is strongly recommended that a parent or caregiver attend the class with them. Having a familiar adult present helps young learners feel comfortable, stay engaged, and get the most benefit from each lesson. Parent participation also strengthens the learning experience and supports music practice at home.
Should Parents Stay in the Teaching Room During Lessons ?
Parents are strongly encouraged to remain in the lesson room, particularly for younger students, as their presence helps create a supportive learning environment. Parental involvement enhances student focus, reinforces lesson structure, and allows families to better understand instructional techniques for effective at-home practice.
What Are the Practice Expections ?
Regular practice is essential for musical progress. Students are strongly encouraged to practice consistently between lessons, as steady practice builds technique, confidence, and long-term success. Assigned work may include repertoire practice, technical exercises, and music theory activities to reinforce concepts learned during lessons. Consistent practice helps students get the most value from each lesson and reach their musical goals more effectively.
What Performance Opportunities Are Available ?
Performance opportunities are personalized based on each student’s goals, readiness, and interest. Our academy actively prepares and recommends students for competitions, recitals, and public performances. We encourage students to participate in competitions as a valuable way to build confidence, gain stage experience, and learn by hearing and observing other performers. These experiences help students develop resilience, motivation, and a deeper understanding of musical artistry.
