Our Mission & Philosophy
Our Mission
At Morgantown Piano Academy, our mission is to nurture musical growth from early childhood through adulthood, guiding students along a structured yet inspiring journey in music education. We are committed to developing each student's technical skills, musical understanding, and artistic expression supporting learners as they progress from foundational study to advanced and professional-level performance. Through personalized instruction, performance opportunities, and preparation for music examinations and competitions, we empower students to achieve their individual goals and cultivate a lifelong connection with music.
Our Teaching Philosophy
We believe that meaningful musical development is built on strong fundamentals, consistent guidance, and purposeful practice. Our teaching philosophy emphasizes a balanced approach that integrates technique, musicianship, theory, and expressive performance, allowing students to grow with confidence and clarity at every stage of their learning. Instruction at Morgantown Piano Academy is tailored to each student's age, ability, and aspirations whether pursuing music for personal enrichment, academic advancement, or professional preparation. By fostering discipline, creativity, and self-motivation, we aim to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to succeed in examinations, competitions, and lifelong musical endeavors.
Our Founding Story

Morgantown Piano Academy was founded with a commitment to excellence in music education providing structured, high-quality instruction that supports each student’s artistic journey. Established in 2017 with piano as its primary focus, the academy has since expanded to include instruction in violin, voice, guitar, and additional instruments, reflecting a dedication to comprehensive music study across age groups and skill levels.
The academy was founded by Dr. Juliana Yap, an accomplished pianist and educator who holds two doctorate degrees in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano from West Virginia University. Dr. Yap has performed internationally as both a soloist and collaborative artist, including appearances at Carnegie Hall and Steinway-Haus Munich, and brings extensive experience as an educator, adjudicator, and mentor. Her professional achievements and deep commitment to student development continue to shape the academy’s mission and standards.
"Excellence in music education through structured, personalized instruction that nurtures each student's unique artistic journey."
